How to edit inventory properties, including barcodes, dimensions, and other specifications, from the Item Master.
| IN THIS TOPIC |
The Item Master page in Flexe gives you the option to edit certain inventory properties and specifications, including:
- Item barcodes/barcode numbers
- Dimensions (length & width)
- Weights
- Shipalone
- Ship as-is
Before you start
To make changes to the Item Master, you need the Inventory Control user role assigned in Flexe. To learn more about managing user roles, go to Managing Warehouse Users & Roles.
Note: Only the shipper and the Flexe Support team can make other changes to the Item Master (e.g. enabling or disabling features for an item). If you need help with other changes, reach out to your Flexe Logistics Analyst or contact us at support@flexe.com.
Editing a Single Item
To edit inventory properties for a specific item:
1. Select Item Master from the left menu in Flexe.
2. Find the item you want to edit, then open the SKU Details.
You can use the Type to filter box at the top of the page search for the item by SKU number or description.
Select the item to open the SKU details.
Note: If your warehouse has multiple reservations, you'll first need to use the Reservation filter at the top of the page to select reservation associated with the item.
3. Select Edit Properties.
4. Make adjustments to item properties as needed, then select Save Changes.
Use the text boxes or dropdown menus next an item property to make adjustments, as needed. Once you've entered everything, select Save Changes.
[Note: For more information about item properties and specifications, go to Item Property Guide for Warehouses.]
The item will then be updated automatically on the Item Master page.
Editing Multiple Items via CSV
You can update item properties for multiple items at once in a CSV file, using the Upload Item Master Edit feature.
To edit multiple items via CSV:
1. Select Item Master from the left menu in Flexe.
2. Open the Upload Item Master Edit dropdown, then select the reservation.
Open the Upload Item Master Edit option at the top of the page. Then select the reservation the items are associated with from the dropdown.
3. Download the CSV template file.
Select the template link in the upload window to download the CSV template file, which you’ll use as a guide to enter all required information in the correct format.
Open the file once it downloads through your web browser.
4. Edit the CSV file.
First, delete the sample data in rows 2 and 3. Then enter information for all the inventory items and properties you want to edit. The column headers will indicate whether a field is (required) or (optional).
Enter information for all the required fields, at a minimum. But keep in mind that some of the optional fields (including cartons_per_layer, layers_per_carton, cartons_per_pallet and stackable) are need to support inbound and outbound activity.
Once everything is entered, make sure to save the file in .csv format.
Note: If you need more information about what to enter for specific fields, go back to the upload window and select See a sample of the data required for your file. To learn more, go to Reviewing CSV Sample Data.
5. Go back to Flexe, and upload the CSV file.
Return to the upload window in Flexe, where you can drag and drop your edited CSV file, or select Choose File to find it from where it’s saved on your computer.
Then, select Submit to upload the file.
Note: If there are any data errors, the system will automatically list them within the upload window. You’ll need to go back to the CSV file to fix these errors, and then try uploading the file again (using the same steps). To learn more, go to Fixing CSV Upload Errors.
Once the file uploads, the items are updated in the Item Master. You can review these changes from the Item Master page.
Fixing CSV Upload Errors
If there are any problems with your CSV file, the system automatically generates an error notification. This notification shows each error, details on how to fix it, and which rows and SKUs in the spreadsheet are impacted.
To complete the CSV upload process, you'll need to correct each of these errors directly within your spreadsheet file.
Once you've reviewed and corrected all errors, upload and submit the file again from the upload window.
Note: If you're still getting an error message, try copying everything into a new CSV file and then upload the file again.
If you need more help, contact us at support@flexe.com for additional troubleshooting.
Reviewing CSV Sample Data
If you need more information about what to enter for specific fields, go back to the upload window and select See a sample of the data required for your file.
This will show you a detailed breakdown of each column in the spreadsheet, as well as examples of what to input, and any important guidelines to follow.
