After shipments have been waved and picked, they're ready for the packing process. You can use Flexe mobile devices to pack shipments directly from a pick cart or from a put wall.
Note: To learn more, go to SFS Picking Parcel Shipments.
Before you start
Before you start packing, make sure you have the following:
- Flexe mobile device
- Packing materials
- Shipping label printer
Packing from a Pick Cart
You can pack from one pick cart per wave, or from several pick carts. Multiple mobile device users can also pack from the same wave and pick carts at the same time. Each user can use the same steps to complete the packing process.
To pack directly from a pick cart on Flexe mobile devices:
1. Select Pack from the home screen.
2. Scan the Pack Station you're currently packing at.
If you're using a pack station or outbound staging, scan the location barcode.
Or, if you're packing directly from your pick cart, you can scan the cart as your pack station instead.
3. Scan the Pick Cart.
Scan the cart used to pick the shipments. If using multiple carts, you can scan any of the carts associated with the wave to proceed.
Note: Other packing process flows are also available on this screen; only use these options when directed.
4. Scan a SKU.
Scan an item from the MHE cart.
Note: If using multiple carts, you may be prompted to scan items from any of the carts associated with the wave.
5. Scan any remaining SKUs needed for the shipment.
If additional SKUs are needed to pack the shipment, the progress tracker at the bottom of the screen will show the number remaining.
If no additional SKUs are needed, the screen will automatically proceed to the next step.
6. Scan the shipping label and place it on the box.
7. Check for the "shipment complete" message.
You'll be prompted to complete any additional actions for the shipment as needed (e.g. adding a hazmat sticker for hazmat items).
You'll get a "shipment complete" notification once the shipment is packed and ready to ship.
8. Repeat these steps until all shipments are packed.
Packing from a Put Wall
Once a wave has been picked and sorted on a put wall, you're ready to proceed with packing. Each put wall has its own barcode, which is what you'll be prompted to scan on a mobile device during packing.
Note: Each cubby also has its own unique barcode. In the event that inventory in a cubby is short, but the shipment still needs to be packed and shipped, you can scan the cubby barcode instead of the put wall barcode. To learn more, go to Packing Short Shipments from a Put Wall.
To pack from a put wall on Flexe mobile devices:
1. Select Pack from the home screen.
2. Scan the pack station.
Scan the barcode for the pack station or staging location where you'll be packing the shipments.
3. Scan the put wall you're packing from.
The device will then recommend a cubby that is complete and ready to pack.
4. Scan all items in the cubby, then place them in the recommended box.
Find the cubby shown onscreen, then scan all items inside of it.
Next, look for the PKG details on the same screen to determine which size box to use for the shipment. Once you find the right box, place all items from the cubby into it.
5. After all items are packed, scan the box.
Once you scan the box, the device will generate a new shipping label and print it to the connected printer.
6. Scan the shipping label.
After the label prints, place it on the box then scan the label.
7. Repeat until all shipments on the put wall are packed.
The device will then proceed with the next cubby that's ready to pack. Repeat these steps until all shipments are packed and complete.
Packing Short Shipments from a Put Wall
During the packing process the system will not include cubbies that don't have all the inventory requested for the shipment--that is, some or all of the items are unavailable and could not be picked and/or sorted.
If a cubby is short of requested inventory but still needs to be shipped, you can use the cubby barcode to pack it.
When prompted to scan the put wall (on the Scan a . . . . screen), scan the cubby barcode instead.
The rest of the packing process is the same. You'll be asked to scan all items in the cubby, scan the box and then print and scan the shipping label.
Repeat these steps as needed for any other cubbies that need to be shipped short.
Splitting Shipments
If a batch is picked short, or the requested quantities won't fit into one box, you can use the Split option during packing.
Note: If you need to split a shipment because the items are not on-hand and the shipment needs to be canceled, go to the Flexe web platform to cancel the shipment.
To split shipments on Flexe mobile devices:
1. From the Scan SKU screen, scan the SKU(s) for the item(s) you want to pack first.
You can split across individual SKUs (e.g. scan 1 of 2 requested), or you can split between different SKUs (e.g. scan SKU A, but split SKU B).
3. Select the Split option at the top of the screen.
This creates a new shipment for items not yet scanned.
3. Select Split Shipment to confirm.
After confirming, it may take up to a minute for the splitting process to complete.
4. Scan and add a label for the split shipment.
Once the splitting process is complete, you’re prompted to scan and add a label for the split shipment
After you scan the shipping label, you'll be taken back to the Scan SKU screen, which shows details for the original shipment.
You can then continue through the batch, or split the shipment again as needed.
