How to complete the packing process for parcel shipments on Flexe mobile devices.
| IN THIS TOPIC |
The Pack feature on Flexe mobile devices guides you through scanning SKU(s) and shipping label(s) for a fulfillment order to get it ready for shipment.
Note: Once a shipment is packed it cannot be cancelled or otherwise edited in the Flexe system. If there are any issues with a shipment, alert Support@Flexe.com before completing the packing process.
Before you start
For guidance on how to set up and prepare everything you need for the packing process, go to Packing Prep & Setup.
Standard Packing
To complete the standard packing process on Flexe mobile devices:
1. Select Pack from the home screen.
2. Scan the pack station barcode.
The pack station is a location at your warehouse where batches/orders are brought after they're picked, to prep them for shipment.
3. Scan the corresponding shipping label(s) or batch barcode.
For batches: If you have shipping labels on-hand, scan the labels. If you don’t yet have labels, you can scan the batch barcode. If labels have already been printed, but you try to scan the batch barcode, you’ll see an error message onscreen prompting you to scan the labels instead.
For single orders: Scan a shipping label. Batch barcodes do not apply for single-line shipments.
4. Scan the SKU, and each item in the shipment.
The SKU name and quantity for the shipment show onscreen. For batches, you can also view the batch ID, the number of shipments within the batch and a list of all items to be packed.
Completion Status
Keep in mind that the quantities listed next to a SKU decrease as you complete each scan.
The Items Packed section at the bottom of the screen shows your progress. It tracks the number of items scanned against the total number of items that need to be packed.
After the entire requested quantity of a SKU has been scanned, it no longer shows onscreen.
In this example, after scanning the 3 requested eaches for the “Brown Backgammon Board," that item is no longer listed onscreen. The only SKU remaining is 4 eaches of the “Red Bicycle Playing Cards” (3 eaches + 4 eaches = 7 eaches total).
View P.O. & Shipping Details
Open the dropdown menu in the upper right corner for additional details about the shipment, including the purchase order (P.O.) number, shipping address, carrier and service level.
For overboxing: For single orders that require overboxing, make sure to use the box size/packaging specified at the top of the shipping label. Avoid using anything different, unless there is some sort of special circumstance (e.g. the warehouse is out of corrugate or a particular box size). For more information, go to Packing Prep & Setup.
Note: To find additional information about an item or shipment, you can select the "search" icon at the top of the screen to launch Lookup Details. Scan the related barcode to view available details, then use the "back" arrow to return to where you left off. To learn more, go to Lookup Details.
5. View the Shipment complete screen to confirm.
After the last scan is complete, a Shipment complete notification shows onscreen. This completes the shipment in the Flexe platform, as well.
Your device will automatically return to the Scan a . . . screen (Step 3), so you can repeat this process as many times as needed, until all items are packed and ready for shipment.
Other Packing Actions & Options
Here are some additional actions and options you can use as needed during the packing process:
Manually Confirm SKU
Note: This option is not recommended and should only to be used as a last resort (e.g. if your mobile device scanner isn't working, or a barcode is unreadable).
If you can’t scan a SKU barcode, open the menu (three vertical dots) next to the SKU, and select Manually Confirm. You can then enter the SKU number using your device keypad.
Remove Last Scan
You can use Remove Last Scan to undo an accidental/incorrect scan, or to "unpack" something already scanned.
To remove your last scan during the packing process:
1. Expand Items Packed at the bottom of the screen.
2. Open the menu (three vertical dots) next to the SKU you need to remove.
3. Select Remove Last Scan.
Split Shipments
If a shipment needs to be split--for example, a batch is picked short, or the requested quantities will not fit in one box--you can use the Split option.
Note: If you need to split a shipment because the items are not on-hand, the shipment may need to be canceled in the Flexe web platform.
To split shipments during the packing process:
1. From the Scan SKU screen, scan the SKU(s) you want to pack first.
You can split across individual SKUs (e.g. scan 1 of 2 items requested), or you can split between different SKUs (e.g. scan SKU A, but split SKU B).
2. Select the Split option to create a new shipment for items not yet scanned.
3. Select Split Shipment to confirm.
After confirming, it may take up to a minute for the splitting process to complete.
4. Add a label for the split shipment.
Once the splitting process is complete, you’re prompted to scan and add a label for the split shipment.
After you scan the shipping label, the screen goes back to the Scan SKU screen, with details for the original shipment. You can then continue through the batch, or split the shipment again as needed.
Terminology
Batch - eCommerce shipments that have been sorted together during the waving process, so they can be picked and packed in groups and/or bulk quantities, then split into individual orders as needed. Batches are often used for both the picking and packing workflows on Flexe mobile devices.
Hazmat - Abbreviation for "Hazardous materials."
Overboxing - The process of placing items within a new box/carton for shipping. This often involves packing multiple items in the same carton, so this process can also be referred to as cartonizing.
Pack - The Pack feature on Flexe mobile devices guides you through scanning the label(s) and SKU(s) for a shipment, to complete order fulfillment.
Ship As-Is - Product that can be shipped “as-is,” meaning that only a shipping label needs to be applied to the item packaging to ship it with any carrier. If multiple ship as-is items are assigned to an order, each item needs its own shipping label.
SKU(s) - Abbreviation for Stock Keeping Unit. This is a unique identifier for an item down to size, color and style (if applicable).
