How to edit and manage locations for your warehouse in Flexe.
| IN THIS TOPIC |
Location details can be edited and adjusted from Locations page. You can make changes to a single location; or make changes to multiple locations at once by CSV file.
Editing Locations
Here's a quick overview of the different location properties you can edit in Flexe:
- Location Name - The name of the location provided by the warehouse during location creation.
-
Category - A user can update most location categories if they are incorrectly classified. For more on editable categories go to About Location Categories.
- Barcode - Users can update location barcodes, if they do not match that of the physical location.
-
Status - Activate, deactivate, or lock an individual location. Location statuses are detailed below:
- Active - Any location that is active in the Flexe platform is available for goods to be stored.
- Inactive - Inactive locations are those that are no longer being utilized. Employees will not be able to put away goods in an inactive location. Note: If a location has been disabled/marked as inactive, the barcode can be reused to create a new location. The new location for the reused barcode must have a different name from the inactive location, otherwise the old location will be reactivated.
- Locked - When a location is locked no goods can be picked from or put away in that location. Locations are automatically locked when a Cycle Count is started and in-progress, and unlocked when it has been completed. Locations can be manually locked if necessary, but as stated earlier, should be unlocked during the same shift to maintain.
- Dimensions - A user can update the length, width, and height of an individual location.
- Primary Pick Loc: this is a checkbox field that indicates whether a storage location is a primary pick. If “yes,” this location will be prioritized over other locations storing the same SKU when picking. This is useful for facilities using racked locations or storage locations meant to serve as “primary” and as “reserve.”
Editing a Single Location
To edit an individual location:
1. Select Locations from the left menu, then select the location you want to edit.
Find the location you want to edit. Then, select the location name to open the Location Detail page.
Note: You can use the Location Name filter to search for a specific location by name.
2. Select Edit.
3. Make changes to location properties as needed, then select Update Location.
Use the relevant location property fields to make changes.
Once you've entered everything, select Update Location.
Editing Multiple Locations by CSV Upload
To edit multiple locations in bulk by CSV:
1. Open Locations in the left menu, then select Download Location Master CSV.
First, download a copy of the your existing location master file by selecting the Download Location Master CSV option at the top of the page. Once downloaded, select the file to open it.
2. Edit the location master CSV file.
Edit the location master CSV file to enter all the changes you want to make, using the relevant columns.
After you've entered all changes, make sure to save the file. Also make sure the file is still in .csv format, so you can upload it back into Flexe.
3. Go back to Flexe, and select Upload CSV.
Return to the Locations page in Flexe, then select the Upload CSV option
Changing Location Statuses in Bulk
Each location has an assigned status in Flexe. Here's a quick overview of each status, and when it should be used:
- Disable - This renders a location unusable if, for any reason, a particular location should no longer be used. If disabled, the location is removed from the main Locations page in Flexe.
- Lock - Locking a location will not allow any systemic activity in or out of the location. Be mindful that when a location is locked, orders can still be allocated against that inventory. When shipments that include inventory from a locked location are waved into the system, the Mobile Device will not prompt the user to pick that item and the order will be short picked. Best practice is that if a warehouse chooses to use the lock functionality, locked locations should be resolved/unlocked within the same shift.
- Enable - This action reenables a location that had been previously disabled or locked. This gives warehouses the ability to easily reincorporate a location without needing to upload it again, or unlock a locked location.
To edit multiple location statuses at once:
1. Select Locations from the left menu to open the Locations page.
2. Select the checkboxes next to each location you want to update.
3. Select Bulk Activate/Lock/Deactivate at the top of the page.
4. Choose the new status for the locations.
In the window that opens, select which status you want to apply to the selected locations (Activate All, Lock All or Deactivate All).
The location(s) will then be updated with the new status on the Locations page.
Note: You can use the Location Status filter to quickly find deactivated locations. First, select New Filter at the top of the Locations page. Then select the Location Status option in the first dropdown, and the Inactive option in the second dropdown.
