A description of the Multi-Package Shipment functionality and how to ship with this configuration.

⚠️ Before you start
This process applies only to warehouses with the multi-package shipment configuration enabled. Contact your Logistics Analyst to confirm applicability for your warehouse.
Overview of Multi-Package Shipments (MPS)
Multi-Package Shipments allow multiple packages of the same order shipping out to be linked under one master tracking number for a better customer experience. This configuration also maximizes efficiency by allowing multiple operators to work on separate parts of the same order simultaneously. Each item in an order can receive its own shipping label, enabling different pickers and packers to manage various items in parallel.
- One parent shipment created from a customer order splits into multiple child shipments.
- Each child shipment generates its own unique shipping label, tied to a master tracking.
- When waving part of a multi-package shipment, the other shipments will also be waved at the same time, either as part of the same wave, or a new wave will be created to ensure that all shipments move through the system at the same time.
- A multi-package shipment cannot be trailer loaded until all related shipments that were part of the same order are in Packed status.
Viewing Multi-Package Shipments
To view all shipments tied to a specific Purchase Order (PO):
- On the Shipments screen, click on Filter by: PO on the dropdown menu.
2. Enter the PO number in the box and click Add. The system displays all shipments associated with that PO.
3. Review the filtered results to see each child shipment for the PO, each with a unique Shipment ID. The Contents column displays SKU details and quantities.
Note: If multiple SKUs appear in a shipment, the system will indicate this to streamline the picking process.
Waving and Batching Shipments
1. Pick the order in separate waves (or depending on how the warehouse's wave templates are set up). If the wave templates are set-up by SKU, this allows multiple operators to work on the same order in different waves
Note: The order's shipments can also be grouped together by going to the Wave Template page, selecting Carrier (e.g., Fedex), clicking Add Filter, choosing PO Includes, and entering the PO number.
2. Click on Wave to wave the shipments listed that matched the filters.
3. Enter the number of shipments and waves then click Create Waves.
Note: Typically if there are multiple pickers, each picker can have 1 wave.
4. The Waves and Batches screen will display the waves that were generated. Click the Print all Documents button to print the wave documents and shipping labels.
Note: Shipping labels for the same order will all share a single master tracking number.
Picking Shipments
1. Select Pick Goods on the mobile app, then Scan Batch Barcode (the first page on the documents generated on the batch). When prompted Scan Cart Barcode, scan the MHE cart's barcode.
2. At the storage location, scan the location, then scan the SKU barcode, confirm quantities, and click the check button.
3. Scan the destination location or Pack Station to complete the picker's task.
Note: Only one wave can occupy one pack station at a time.
Packing Shipments
On the Pack App, scan the Pack Station barcode, then scan either a Shipping Label or a Pick Cart.
Option 1 (Recommended): Scanning a Shipping Label
1. Scan the SKU, and the message Shipment complete will appear.
2. Once all the shipping labels have been scanned, the device will indicate the batch has been completed.
Option 2: Scanning a Pick Cart
1. Scan each SKU, then scan and add the shipping label to the box when prompted.
2. A green message confirms shipment completion. A Batch Complete message will appear once all labels for the batch are packed.
Trailer Loading
For the trailer loading process, the Multi-Package Shipment cannot be trailer loaded until all related shipments that were part of the same order are in Packed status. Everything else will follow the standard Trailer Loading Processes.
Troubleshooting Common Errors
|
Issue or Error |
How to Troubleshoot |
|
|
Packing Error (Pack App): Only scan the Shipping label or Cart Barcode. Scanning the batch barcode is only used for "Pack time label generation (PTLG) reservations.
|
|
|
Trailer Loading Error (Trailer Loading App): During shipping label scans, an error appears if any of the child shipments remain unpacked. This ensures that all multi-package shipments are packed and loaded together. |
